Everyone is focused on prompting.
That makes sense in the early stage of AI adoption. Prompting is the most visible part of the interaction. It is the part people can see, test, and improve immediately. A better prompt often produces a better answer. So companies naturally start there.
But prompting is not an operating model.
A prompt is an instruction. An operating model is a system. One helps produce an output. The other determines how work actually gets done, who owns which decisions, how judgment is applied, when escalation happens, and what standards govern the result.
That difference matters more than most companies realize.
Many organizations still talk about AI adoption as if the core challenge is teaching employees how to prompt better. That is useful, but it is a very narrow layer of the real problem.
